Software Engineer IV –

Nexus 1000, Cisco Systems

Winner of the Best of VM World 2008 Award in the New Technology category, and Cisco's largest product beta, the Nexus 1000 product line enables the Virtualization strategy in Cisco’s Datacenter 3.0.

This requisition is for a software development engineer's position in the Nexus 1000 group where the team in India drives the design of original and leading edge features and products.

The work involves design and development of features for the Nexus 1000 product line, with emphasis on Layer 2 technologies. We are looking for candidates who can

Responsibilities:

• Participate in a project team of engineers involved in the development of software for our product family.

• Define, architect, design new software protocols and features

• Write complete functional and design specs independently, write portions of product spec

• Design & develop large portions of software independently.

• Engage with customer facing groups, understand customer requirements, integrate into the products

• Enhance customer satisfaction, success by actively engaging and resolving customer issues

Required Skills:

• Strong C programming skills.

• RTOS embedded experience ( VxWorks, PSOS, Linux OS)

• Experience in L2 Ethernet switching protocols (any of the following protocols; VLAN, LACP, STP, IGMP, Multicast)

• Hands on experience on switch/router embedded system software development.

• Strong problem solving, software development and troubleshooting skills.

• MSEE/CS combined with 5-7 years of related experience, or BSEE/CS combined with 7-10+ yrs related experience.

• BSCS/CE is required MSCS/CE is preferred.

Desired Skills:

• Exposure to NXOS architecture, programming

• Experience with Linux programming

• Experience with VMWare or other hypervisor technologies.

• Experience w/ IP routing (any routing protocols like OSPF, ISIS, BGP)

• Experience with forwarding software/drivers for any switch/router products
